Striving is what we are culturally taught; we often times get our self worth in having goals and meeting them. We want results.
As an achiever and doer, the concept of having a life purpose seems like it makes perfect sense. I mean of course there has to be some big thing we are striving to fulfill, why else would we be here?
Over the last couple of years I’ve realized the concept of “finding/living your purpose” is a mask of the ego’s needs to achieve and have results. Which really boils down to... our own lack of true self worth.
If we aren’t doing or striving for something specific, we believe we are NOT ENOUGH.
Being not enough subconsciously means to us that we are unlovable, and being unlovable is one of our greatest fears. So this is one of the main reasons we feel we need a purpose.
There’s a quote that states
“You are enough. Not because you did or said or bought or thought or became or created something special, but because you always were.”
A couple years ago a friend of mine looked at me and said, “My problem with you is you keep searching for the light and think you have to have these lofty goals, not realizing you are the got damn light when you have a simple conversation with a stranger. People light up.”
At that point I had to do some judgement free self reflection. I realized a lot of my self worth was attached to doing, instead of simply BEING. (Still working on this cause God knows I love a goal and results!)
Sure, I can still set different goals that I know are connected with my life path. Anyone that knows me knows I am a go-getter and looooove checklist. But these smaller goals or micro purposes are not my life or macro purpose. THEY ARE GOALS.
My macro life purpose is to be in a state of internal peace, connection, joy, and bliss as much as possible.
The result of that is a life full of expansion... and a walking example of love.
My micro purpose for today may simply be to be connected with myself and feeling good. What happens? I walk by a stranger and I give them a genuine smile from my heart. I may not have any clue that that simple smile stopped them from having a pity party because they just lost their job and are BROKE.
Because my smile put them in a better mood, when they got home instead of calling up KiKi and them to tell them how pissed they were, they start looking for positions at the company they really wanted to work at anyway... and eventually got that job.
Now I have no clue my simple smile did all that. But if I had an ego need for an outcome driven “purpose” I may not think my day was as "meaningful" as it actually was!
We often times aren’t ok with planting the seeds, we want to see the harvest. Meaning my smile was a seed, the person that offered them the job and saw the expression on their face got to see the harvest. The ego needs to see the harvest and results.
But if you are in a state of peace, joy, connection, and bliss - you have a knowing that you are planting seeds, with ease, wherever you go. Living a life in service is a natural result.
We have a tendency to think everything is suppose to be a hard road or struggle. “Theres no easy way,” we are often told.
I’m all for “doing the work,” giving yourself goals, making plans, having a vision. Just make sure you know the inner and external “work” is not attached to your purpose or self worth.
There is no rulebook on how to get there. There is no timetable. There isn’t 1 way. Your journey can’t look like hers or his.
You were beautifully crafted and created; you are having a unique experience that nobody else has ever had, and nobody else ever will.
The more alignment you have with your true self - the more peace, inner connection, joy, and bliss you will flow with. The more you are in flow, the more results you will get knowingly and unknowingly.
Your micro “purposes” will come to you. You will walk by the right person that needs that smile. You will get switched with someone at work and wait on the customer you were suppose to help. You will be able to look in your students eyes and know they need you to tell them they are special today. Because you’re aligned with your macro purpose, you will feel it in your heart to let your little light shine BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND. *Rihanna voice*
